Organizational Culture — My perspective

In my last post I talked about how much I love connecting with people. This would not be complete if I did not talk about how various organizations(culture) that I have worked has played a key role in this.

My mantra — When I join an organization, I am definitely looking forward to do the best work of my life but also I look forward to connect, learn and build the relationships with the wonderful people who are part of that set-up and add value to my journey. It is so true and resonates when we say that home is made of its occupants, similarly a great organization is because of its people and culture.

I have been very fortunate to work in some of the best companies which have stood out for their exemplary focus on #peoplefirst mindset and nurturing a culture of core values and empathy. These truly helps to build a strong sense of trust, purpose, and belonging.

Fun times together with the team

We spend an enormous part of our life at workplace. A supporting ecosystem helps in bringing your whole self to work and allows you to share your vulnerability without fear of being judged. I have had several of those experiences — A team that bonds together performs stronger(rhymes:-)…). I have had leaders who made efforts for the team to come together often to stimulate EQ and IQ quotient. While we made memories during those fun times, it made us shed our inhibitions and be more open to help each other. Helped the team to rise together and lift each other. I think one of best thing I learnt was playing “Mafia”..:0

The policies and benefits that organization offer are a game changer for many of us sometime for as basic to be able to continue your job without a break. I have personally utilized and benefitted when I needed them the most whether it was to manage a new addition in the family or be more available to the kids during the most critical times of their education phase. It helps you to focus on what needs your attention and alleviates the guilt of not being available.

Another critical aspect of a great organization culture is to nurture the growth mindset of their employees and provide the ammunition to remain innovative. Mobility, Upskilling, Intrapreneurship opportunities are some great ways to do it . These helps the person to be in-charge of their career. They have the option to explore , learn and switch roles instead of stagnating in the same role. Sometimes all you need to do is just look around and ask for help.

When I moved into a brand new Product Manager role(that was looong time back!!) — it was the trust of my new manager and the hooks and support of the organizational ecosystem that helped me to navigate successfully and build my craft.

As we grow professionally as well as in age numbers, one needs to develop additional perspectives that goes beyond their day job responsibilities. This could range from giving back to the society, be in harmony with nature or appreciating the diversity around us or a lot more. An organization that endorses these causes and embraces them enables their employees to be more kinder and compassionate and offer a great platform to experience these.

In my own experience such conducive workplace culture helps one to become an empathetic leader, able to take risks, appreciate diversity and most importantly fosters a strong team spirit based on mutual trust and respect. Whenever I have changed jobs, it always felt home rather soon due to similar cultures. May our tribe expand😊

“Culture eats Strategy for breakfast” is indeed a profound quote and has stood the testimonials of time. I would love to hear how organizations in your journey line have shaped your thought process and fueled your growth.
